Hey guys. Here is the second lesson in reading forum. I hope you have read and enjoyed the first one.
Second lesson
Hi everybody. Welcome to the second lesson in English reading proficiency. In order to become a proficient English text reader, you need to get familiar with many different aspects involved in reading. Reading in another language, and here English, is a delicate and accurate process. To master reading abilities and strategies, you need to put feet on a long bumpy road. For the IELTS exam reading module the task is even more difficult, for you need to be proficient in different types and contexts of reading. The following are some of the steps you will need to take:
1- You need to have a strong grasp of grammatical structures and their usage in different texts.
2- You need to understand the contextual meaning of a great deal of words and phrases in different issues and topics.
3- You need to master the basic and advanced ideas of referencing, paraphrasing and paragraph structuring.
4- You need to understand and practice the skills of scanning and skimming.
5- You need to be able to implement all these abilities at the same time when reading a text, which needs a great deal of practicing.
6- You need to know the different types of information that are conveyed in academic texts and their usual patterns.
7- You need to be accurate in understanding the questions and finding the correct answer in texts using all the points mentioned earlier.
In order to do all these, you need to get close to them step by step and in a logical and practical way. The first things you need to know and master are understanding the basic concepts of the theory of systems, the most universal and widespread theory in mankind science, and understanding the way a scientist thinks and approaches the issues in academic contexts. In the next issues we will talk more about these two and will then proceed to some more nice ones! Be prepared!
