This subject (passive and active vocabulary) is really interesting. But this article just provides the definition of active and passive vocabulary. Although the number of our active words is less that the passive ones, there are some methods by which we can make our passive vocabularies active. As you have put it in your article activating passive vocabularies is our concern. Therefore your article would be more useful by suggesting or providing some methods for activating our passive vocabularies

I do agree with you that the number of the words we know is less than those that we can use in speaking and writing. But even those native speakers who read more can use a greater number of words. I think the same story is true in second language learning;Those learners who read more and make themselves use the words they know can claim that the number of their active vocabulary is more than others.
